The standard The racialstandard of the Clumber is a discription of the dog in it most common appearance. This description is made as a guide for the judges. Judges in training are using this common appearance for their exams. During their exams the judges in training will see and feel a variety of diffrent dogs, both male and female, and it’s up to the judges to decide which dog comes closest to the most common appearance. Please note that this guideline is also used by the breeders. To give you an impression on what a judge will look for, here is the racialstandard, as set by the FCI, on June 23rd and 24th 1987, in Jeruzalem. Common image Balanced build, heavy bones, active with a thoughtfull expression, the complete image comes across as strong and powerfull. Character Stoic, goodhearted, highly intellegent with a confident attitude considering his natural ability. A silent worker with an excellent nose. Temper Quiet, reliable and confident. Easier going then other spaniels, and not threath towards aggresion. Head and skull Square, massive and medium length, wide up top, with an appartent knot on the back back of the head. Heavy eyebrows with a deeplying stop to them. Big, square snout, with good developed upperlip. No exaggerations on the head or skull. Eyes Clean, dark amber, slightly sunken into the head. Small conjuctiva showing but nothing too much. A fully lighted colored eye is disapproved. Ears Big, shaped like a grapeleaf, wellcovered with long hair, slightly forward tilted, while the fringe reaches no more then from skin to ear. Teeth Strong developed jaws, with a perfect, regular sheering denture. The upper teeth should fit over the lower teeth and should be straighly aligned. Neck Fairly long, thick and strong Front paws Strong, tilted and muscular shoulders, short legs, straight, heavy and strong. Body Long, heavy and low centered. Deep chest, nicely rimmed ribs. The back is wide and long. Muscular loins which nicely flow into the flanks. Back paws Very strong and good developed. Low heels, the kneejoints are hooked and placed straight. Feet Big and round, well covered with hair. Tail Low set, properly fringed and adjected to the back. Gait Rolling gait in accordance with long body and short legs. Right foot with driving fit, both coming and going. Fur Overflowing, close implanted, silkky and flowing. Legs and chest are well fringed. Color Plain white body with with small lemony-colored markings are required, but orangemarking are allowed. Light marks on the head and speckled on the muzzle. Weight The ideal weight for males are 36kg and for females 29,5kg Flaws Any departure from the foregoing points should be charged as a flaw and the extent to which the flaw should be assessed in relation to the whole stand. Note Males should have two, clearly visible, normal testicles, which are fully descended into the scrotum. Do you think your dog nice to these requirements?
